I appreciate the presented facts that Manning had both spinal fusion surgery and stem cell injections.

I'll be rooting for Peyton Manning and the Broncos because, I love come back stories. May we all share the mantel of never give up.

Stem cell research offers hope, all stem cells. Needing more than 10 years to bring basic research to cures is no surprise. By CIRM becoming the biggest funder of all types of stem cell research, critical advances in the field have paved the way for cures with stem cell research. Californians have a lot to be proud of in the CIRM agency. CIRM is on the right side of history and development of cures.

Even if you think autologous stem cells are the only way as some of the commenters above seem to suggest. There is no cure for any of the conditions that are proposed to be helped by autologous stem cells. Unfortunately, to date there is no cure for spinal cord injury, blindness, multiple sclerosis, parkinson's, alzheimers, ALS, and the scores of other diseases. Fortunately, there is much hope that we develop those cures for these score of degenerative conditions using cell-based approaches.

Persons that present themselves as patient advocates but then against biomedical research is mind-numbing to me. Has anyone forgotten how CIRM lured voters with the promise of miracle cures? Yes, the C word! So far, billions have been spent without much to show for it. Talk about unproven - I would apply that term to CIRM. Instead of investing in a path of least resistance, which in my opinion would have been autologous, uncultured cells, they focused on the bleeding edge of IPSc and controversial ESCs. Now they go out there with this gratuitous self serving blog post about Peyton Manning?? They've got to be kidding.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189004028142085438.post-51887050906509533422014-01-24T11:59:54.083-08:002014-01-24T11:59:54.083-08:00Dr. Goldstein is quoted as saying such cases can c...Dr. Goldstein is quoted as saying such cases can cause "many other people to ignore scientific evidence ...". This is incorrect. The body of scientific knowledge by and large supports the safety and efficacy of such treatments. However, the evidence is not overwhelming, and not sufficient to convince him or the FDA.

He also states that "there is no evidence of benefit to be gained". Again, this statement is patently false. There are dozens of publications on the basic research, animal models, and case studies in this field that again suggest that these treatments can be successful.

Dr. Goldstein can legitimately suggest that there is not enough evidence, but he can not legitimately claim that there is none.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
