ISSCR: Governor Patrick talks about the hope of stem cells

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick
This afternoon Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick welcomed 4,000 or so stem cell scientists and others from the stem cell community to Boston. They're all in town for the 11th annual meeting of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR). He told us,
Thank you for the hope you give to people in need. Hope is s powerful thing.
He also made some requisite remarks about the primacy of the life sciences sector of Massachusetts, something I might have agreed with a few years ago before a cross country move. But his main point is well taken. He credited the sector with helping Massachusetts exit the recession sooner than most other states.

We have to agree on the economic power of the biotech and life sciences industry, and more specifically, the fast growing stem cell community in California. We commissioned an independent assessment of CIRM’s contributions to the California economy that we released early this year.
